We use small molecules to study mechanisms of pathogenesis of obligate intracellular parasite pathogen ( gondii). Currently we are investigating how reversibly palmitoylated proteins regulate the process of host cell invasion, and likely other key pathways in the parasite. A greater understanding of how and when this post-translational modification (PTM) is utilized by the parasite will result in a better understanding of which palmitoylation events contribute to parasite pathogenesis.
